Dear Members of the Trinity Family,
One of the highlights of my year is witnessing the HSC class celebrate all that they have accomplished in Graduation Week. This year’s Graduation Mass, Prize Giving and Farewell Assembly were fitting tributes to the Class of 2024 who have overcome much and achieved even more.
I sincerely congratulate each member of the Graduating Class for their resilience, tenacity and ability to endure the trials and tribulations of the past six years: floods, fires, COVID and a relocation. We often define the difference between school and life in the following terms: at school you are taught a series of lessons and then given a test, but in life you are given a test which inevitably teaches you a lesson. For our departing Year 12 students they have been tested at school and in life on a consistent basis. I commend them, and their parents/carers and teachers, for enduring.
The prayer recited for Year 12, following the distribution of their Trinity crosses on Wednesday night, encapsulates Trinity’s desire for our Year 12 students:
“May you embrace the mystery of life as it unfolds before you. May your life be richly fulfilling; a celebration of God’s love for you. May you meet the challenges that lie ahead with hope and enthusiasm. May you always know that wherever you go our prayers are with you too. May God’s all powerful love be with you always, to give you strength to persevere in tough times, faith to keep believing, and the hope to see you fulfill your potential.”
I wish all of HSC students well for their examinations which commence in Week 1 of Term 4. I also thank all of those long-term Trinity families whose association with the College ends with the graduation of their child in 2024. Thank you for your endless support and encouragement - we sincerely appreciate it.

Student Enrolments
Some enrolment vacancies exist in some year levels. All enrolment enquiries are best directed to our Enrolments Officer via email - enrolments@trinitylismore.nsw.edu.au - or phone: 02) 6627 6647. Applications can be made through our College website. As we move into Semester 2, I am respectfully requesting that we are informed if any family knows their child(ren) will not be returning to the College in 2025. This is vital information for our planning.

I wish all students and families well for a safe and enjoyable spring holiday. Students return to the College on Tuesday 15 October 2024 (Day 7). On Monday 14 October staff will participate in a range of professional learning activities ahead of the term’s commencement.

As we conclude Term 3 and farewell our Year 12 cohort, wishing them all the best for their upcoming HSC exams, it is a good time to reflect on a Term that has been filled with Student opportunities, engagement and success in all areas of College life.
We began the Term with the annual College Athletics carnival, I also had the pleasure of attending various showcases of students’ HSC work from Creative arts performances through to the TAS showcase ‘Innovate' and along the way there have been many opportunities presented to students both inside the classroom and out. It has been fantastic to see such a high level of student engagement across the board and engagement is always one of the steps on the path to success. We have been able to acknowledge many examples of student success this Term.
I also take this opportunity to remind parents and carers of our uniform requirements at the College. We recognise that it can sometimes be difficult to keep up with the rapid growth of some of our teenagers, however, it is important for us to be consistent with our expectations. As we head into Term 4 I would like to specifically highlight the need for students to have (and wear) a College hat and a uniform that fits correctly (as per recommended guidelines). Please review the applicable guidelines attached and if you have any difficulties with access to items please contact your child’s Leader of Year.
Take care over the upcoming school holidays and I, along with all Trinity Staff, look forward to Term 4 which I am sure will be just as full of challenges, opportunities and successes.

YEAR 12 GRADUATION MASS
Our Graduation events began with parents, families, staff and students coming together to celebrate Mass in St Carthage's Cathedral. Our thanks to Fr Jim Griffin, Presentation Sisters and Marist Brothers for joining our celebration. On the evening we began to present some of our community awards.
Nano Nagle Award s & Medalist
The Nano Nagle Awards called for nominations from staff and students to identify members of our Year 12 cohort who live by the qualities demonstrated by Nano Nagle during her life and works. These qualities include Hospitality, Hope, Justice, Compassion and Stewardship. Our Year 12 Nagle Certificate Recipients for 2025 were Jorgi Krieg, George Mitchell, Jorgia Wolfe, Mary Tran, Will Harrison,Tyvan Catford and Ella Lynch. Our 2024 Nano Nagle medalist was William Harrison. Will was acknowledged for the way he shows hospitality and compassion to all he encounters in our community.
The ‘In Word & Deed’ Service Learning Programme Principal’s Award
Our College motto “In Word and Deed” constantly challenges us all to show our love and concern for each other in concrete and visible ways. The following students received a Principal’s Award for completing over 100 hours of community service during their senior years: Jesse Alexander-Gordon, Travis Ball, Milly Darvell-Hocking, Xavier Eades, Charlotte Goodwin, Emily Hunter, Alex Hills, Jorji Krieg, Laura Parsons, Sharleze Rebbeck, Lilli Robertson, Abigail Smith and Chloe Vinall.
Reuben F Scarf Award
Our award recipient Mary Tran was acknowledged for her determination to achieve her best while juggling her own education and supporting the cultural needs of her immediate and extended family.
David Dennis Memorial Shields and Leadership Excellence Awards were presented to our College, Ministry, Year 12 SRC and House Captains for their enormous contribution to the cultural and faith life of the College.
Indigenous Recognition Awards were presented to Emily Gilbert, Nitika King and Lincoln Rouse acknowledging their achievement on completion of their HSC.
BROTHER PAUL - 60th ANNIVERSARY
We recently acknowledged Br Paul Hough fms, who this year celebrates 60 years as a Marist Brother. Over the years Br Paul has worked as Principal at St Augustine’s College Cairns, St Gregory's College Campbelltown and St Joseph’s College Hunters Hill. Br Paul has always championed those who dwell on the fringes and those without choices. He has lived out the Marist characteristics every day in his work, more notably as an Assistant Principal in Bougainville and helping to establish a new school in Malaysia. He was also responsible for making connections with the Brothers in East Timor and led and supported positive community relationships with Wiley Park High School, Sydney, an almost entirely Muslim school after 9/11. However, his most recent work since 2007 has seen him focus on supporting Indigenous Youth, taking on a Ministerial appointment for the National Indigenous Youth Leadership Program, where he became a Founding Director. Br Paul returned to the North Coast of NSW in 2020 to work part-time in the Children’s Court. He saw a need to support Indigenous youth to reach their potential and worked tirelessly to improve outcomes for young people. Br Paul now resides in the Lismore Brothers’ Community, where he currently works part-time with AES, Aboriginal Employment Strategy, to assist Aboriginal people, especially youth. He is grateful to remain in reasonably good health.

Year 12 Graduation Assembly
What a wonderful way to conclude the Term as we bid farewell to the graduating class of 2024. Below, is an excerpt from the speech delivered by the Assistant Principal of Learning and Teaching.
… Year 12, As you embark on your own journeys, I encourage you to draw inspiration from people like Alexa (Leary). Remember, your future is not predetermined. It is a canvas upon which you can paint your dreams and aspirations. With determination, resilience, and a belief in yourself, you can overcome any challenge and achieve extraordinary things.
There will be times in your lives when things do not go as planned, but I encourage you to find the silver lining, to make lemonade from your lemons, as you just never know what is waiting for you around another corner. You have the ability to make this world your own. And most importantly, you have the power to make a difference for others.
To our parents and carers, I extend my sincere gratitude for entrusting us with the education of your children. Your unwavering support and encouragement have played a vital role in your child’s journey. Year 12 I would like you to think about the love, support, clean clothes, hot meals and unwavering patience that they have given you. Please stand and turn around to say thanks.
Thank you, Year 12, for your contribution to Trinity Catholic College. You are a part of a long history and leave your own legacy. We have been blessed to have shared this journey with you. HSC Term 3 Holiday Study
Year 12 students are encouraged during the Term 3 holidays to plan and make use of the SCU Library space which they are now accustomed to attending for HSC preparation and study. This space provides the required atmosphere and is available to our students through our university partnership. The Library will be open from 8.00 am to 5.00 pm throughout the Term 3 holidays. Students are reminded of College expectations when accessing this public space.
Year 12 HSC Written Exam Timetable
HSC written exams will start on Tuesday 15 October 2024 with English Paper 1 and finish on Friday 8 November 2024. Please find here the link to the complete 2024 HSC written exam timetable with additional information including the Exam Equipment List. Each Year 12 student will have access to their personal exam timetable through studentsonline.nesa.nsw.edu.au. This timetable lists the students' written exams. It also lists any other exams they are entered for, including oral exams for languages, performance exams and submitted works.
Parent Student Teacher Interviews
PSTI for Years 7 to 11 will take place in week 2 Term 4 on Monday 21 October and Thursday 24 October from 3.40 pm to 7.00 pm. Parents will be able to make bookings from Friday 27 September until 3.00 pm on Wednesday 16 October via the booking portal. Families will receive separate instructions regarding how to book appointments.
HSC 2025 Pattern of Study Forms
Last Wednesday we met with Year 11 students regarding the transition from Year 11 courses to HSC courses in Term 4. Year 11 students are asked to return their “Yellow Cards,” indicating any changes to their pattern of study, by Friday 25 October (Week 2, Term 4). Students are encouraged to make informed choices before making any amendments to their pattern of study. Changes to patterns of study will take effect from Week 4, Term 4.
Term 4
We would like to take this opportunity to remind parents that all students are required to have the necessary equipment for learning each day. This includes their books, pencil case and device. It is critical for uninterrupted learning that all students are prepared.
Write a Book in a Day
This year, Trinity Catholic College participated in the Write a Book in a Day challenge, a heartwarming initiative that showcases creativity and supports an incredible cause for Kids' Cancer research. Our seven teams each wrote and illustrated a book in just twelve hours, which will be shared with children in hospitals across Australia.
A special congratulations goes to the Scooby Gang Team, which raised an impressive $1,044. Their dedication contributed to the total of $3,746 raised by all seven participating teams. This collective effort will directly benefit Kids’ Cancer Research, making a meaningful difference in the lives of young patients.
The creativity and teamwork shown during the event were nothing short of inspiring. The books created are filled with imaginative stories and vibrant illustrations, all done within the tight time frame. We are incredibly proud of all our teams for their hard work and generous spirit.
Thank you to everyone who supported the event and donated to this worthy cause. Your contributions will help fuel important research.
Tournament of Minds
This year, Trinity Catholic College proudly participated in the Tournament of Minds 2024, an exciting six-week challenge that tests creativity, teamwork, and problem-solving skills. Our two teams took on distinct challenges, focusing on the Social Sciences and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics).
Over the course of six weeks, both teams worked tirelessly to develop their responses to complex problems, culminating in a final presentation to a panel of judges. In addition to their prepared challenge, each team was required to complete a spontaneous challenge on the day, where quick thinking and collaboration were key. Points were awarded for both the team’s main challenge and the spontaneous challenge.
We are incredibly proud of their commitment and creativity, which is evident in their innovative solutions and strong teamwork. Congratulations to all participants for their fantastic efforts and dedication throughout the competition!
We look forward to seeing more exciting achievements in the future and thank everyone involved for supporting these students.

Year 9 Reflection Day and Camp: A Memorable Term for Year 9
As we reach the end of another exciting Term, I’d like to take a moment to reflect on two key events that have significantly shaped our Year 9 cohort's experiences: Reflection Day at Alstonville and our camp at Tyalgum Ridge.
Reflection Day at Alstonville
Our Reflection Day at Alstonville was a meaningful opportunity for students to step back from the busyness of school life and think deeply about their personal growth and development. Through guided activities and discussions, students explored themes of resilience, responsibility, and respect, all while forming deeper connections with their peers. The serene environment at Alstonville provided the perfect backdrop for these moments of introspection and community-building.
The day included sessions focused on goal setting, mindfulness, and the importance of positive relationships. Many students expressed how valuable it was to pause and reflect on their progress, both academically and personally. The activities fostered open communication and allowed students to support one another as they shared their challenges and aspirations.
Camp at Tyalgum Ridge
More recently, Year 9 embarked on a much-anticipated adventure to Tyalgum Ridge Retreat. Over the course of several days, students were immersed in outdoor activities that pushed them out of their comfort zones, encouraged teamwork, and developed leadership skills.
From high ropes to navigating challenging hikes, our students showed incredible determination and enthusiasm. The camp provided a chance for them to connect with nature, tackle physical challenges, and strengthen friendships in a new environment. The bond that developed among the group was tangible as they supported and cheered each other on during various activities.
In addition to the adventurous challenges, the camp also offered quieter moments where students could relax around campfires, share stories, and simply enjoy the company of their peers. Tyalgum Ridge proved to be not just a physical journey but a journey of personal growth, fostering resilience and a sense of community that will stay with our students well beyond this term. I would like to sincerely thank the Staff who so generously gave of their time to accompany our students, as well as all those who helped to organise the camp.
Looking Forward
Both the Reflection Day and camp offered Year 9 students invaluable opportunities for self-discovery, teamwork, and reflection. As we move into the next Term, we are confident that the experiences gained from these events will have a lasting positive impact on the cohort, helping them grow as individuals and as a collective group.
We are immensely proud of our Year 9 students for their participation and enthusiasm in these activities. I look forward to seeing how they apply the lessons learned as they continue their educational journey.

WOW, we have had such an incredible and busy Term 3 in all things sport!! It is remarkable to see students taking advantage of all the sporting opportunities we have had for them this Term, and a special mention goes out to all our Year 7 students, who are by far the most involved year level across the campus.
This week we announced the Winning House of the 2024 Athletics Carnival, students had been waiting (not so patiently) all Term for the reveal and were on the edge of their seats in the final all school assembly for the year. Congratulations to Dennis for taking out their consecutive win!!! Well done to Holly Matthews and Lewin Grant for being exceptional House Leaders this year and encouraging such excellent participation and involvement within your House and the community.
We would also like to take this opportunity to congratulate all of the 2024 House Captains for an amazing year, you demonstrated awesome leadership and were an inspiration to all year levels.
Wednesday Sport in Term 4
All students from years 7 - 10 have had the opportunity to select a new sport for Term 4. Those allocations will be finalised during the holidays for a jump straight into the sport rotation on Wednesday of Week 1. Roller skating is always a popular choice but we have seen a huge and surprising increase in cricket, volleyball, tennis and Futsal also. Just a reminder that HATS are compulsory for sport, we advise them to leave them in or on their school bags so they don’t forget them.
CRICKET IS A GO
Our Cricket season started this week with the prestigious and elite ‘Berg Shield’ event. Our Junior team engaged in an epic first round T20 game against Xavier Catholic College. Despite the heat and it being edge of your seat tight throughout, the Trinity team came out with the win!! A huge thank you to Xavier Catholic College for your exemplary sportsmanship and travelling to Lismore and an even bigger CONGRATULATIONS to our young cricket team made up of Year 7’s, 8s and 9’s. The future of Trinity Cricket looks bright.
Sporting Achievements
In week 9, Pierce Bull and Blake Collings were drafted by the Eastern Raiders for the Brisbane Premier League Cricket Competition. The team is owned by former Trinity student’s and sports enthusiasts Pat and Cath Foran.
Looking Ahead
Looking ahead into Term 4 and we will trial our basketballers for the 2025 Open’s Marist Basketball teams from week 1. Our Year 7 and 8 basketball enthusiasts will also compete in the Lismore Basketball Challenge in week 4, and our Netball high achievers, the Year 7 and 8 Girls team and 9 and 10 Girls team will travel to Sydney in week 5 for the Netball NSW Cup State Finals. As we are now in the cricket season we have all forms of Cricket carnivals including The 2024 Marist Cricket Carnival, hosted by Lavalla Catholic College in Traralgon, and the Diocesan Water Polo Carnival in Grafton! Another exciting and busy Term for all things sport in our College.

During Term 3, YEAR 7 creatively designed, planned and constructed sustainable, portable, self-watering containers. In addition to planting and monitoring their herb plants (using the College Veggie Pods) they also thoroughly enjoyed whipping up a variety of recipes that utilized the produce of their labour.
Students in YEARS 9, 10 and 12 Food Technology elective classes have been cooking up a storm as part of their various Food Product Development, Food For Special Occasions and Nutrition units.

The College is committed to meeting its Student Duty of Care obligations and as such, there have been some updates to the Medication Administration Policy and Procedures which you need to be aware of.
The updates to the Policy describes Trinity Catholic College's approach to administering medication to students during school hours, or while on excursions, when it is necessary to keep them safe.
Parent Carer Responsibilities:
Parents/carers of students who require medication to be administered during school hours must provide written notification to the College of this requirement and work with the College to arrange for supply, administration and storage of the medication.
Parents/carers of students who require any medication to be administered during school hours must provide written notification to the College of this requirement together with a letter to the College from the prescribing doctor stating the medication, dosage, and time the medication is to be administered and work with the College to arrange for supply, administration, and storage of the prescription medication.
Parents/carers must notify the College of all medical conditions that may require the administration of medication to their child during school hours.
Student medical records are maintained in accordance with our Student Medical Records Policy and Procedures which includes a provision to ensure that the College is regularly updated as to the status of existing medical conditions.
If it is necessary to administer medication to a student, it is our policy that:
Staff do not administer any medication including minor analgesics or “over the counter” medication such as paracetamol to student's without written authorisation from the student's parent/carer. This means that unless you have indicated permission via your enrolment application form, or have provided it in any other written form (email etc), we cannot give panadol/paracetemol or other over the counter medication to your child. Obtaining permission over the telephone will no longer be accepted. Please support the College by explaining this to your sons and daughters.
Student Individual Health Care Plans (Students with Serious or Life Threatening Illnesses)
If a student is required to take medication during school hours, this will be included in their individual health care plan. The plan specifies agreed arrangements for supply, administration, and storage of the medication. Where a student is required to take prescription medication the individual health care plan will also contain a letter provided to the College from the prescribing doctor stating the medication, dosage, and time to be administered.

Lost Property:
Please remember to check your child's clothing and personal possessions are all clearly labelled so that in the event an item is lost, it can be returned.
It is the College's protocol, that at the end of each Term, any lost property that has not been claimed or that we have been unable to return to the student, will be given to St Vincent de Paul. The College simply does not have the facility or space to keep large stores of Lost Property.

Family Liaison Co-Ordinator Update
On Tuesday, 17 September, Trinity College hosted an informative evening for Parents/ Carers about Parenting Teens.
The Presenter was Chris Hudson and the title of this session was Parenting Teenagers in a Digital World.
To commence our evening we gathered for a meet and greet session with Chris before moving to the Whitebrook Theatre for his workshop. The evening was open to all parents of tweens and teens from our local Catholic schools. There was a good attendance at this event and Parents/ Carers would have left with great information and practical tips and strategies to help them to support their young person to thrive. Chris’ information and advice was very grounded and followed by a Q & A session.
