Dear Parents/Carers,
HOW DO I SEE THE WORLD?
To be hopeful in bad times is not just foolishly romantic. It is based on the fact that human history is a history not only of cruelty, but also of compassion, sacrifice, courage, kindness. What we choose to emphasise in this complex history will determine our lives. If we see only the worst, it destroys our capacity to do something. If we remember those times and places—and there are so many—where people have behaved magnificently, this gives us the energy to act, and at least the possibility of sending this spinning top of a world in a different direction. And if we do act, in however small a way, we don’t have to wait for some grand utopian future. The future is an infinite succession of presents, and to live now as we think human beings should live, in defiance of all that is bad around us, is itself a marvellous victory.’ - Howard Zinn
RETURN TO FACE-TO-FACE LEARNING FROM WEEK 3
Earlier today parents / carers were emailed the College’s plan for the gradual return of the various Year levels to face to face teaching.
The attached plan see Year 12 and Year 7 returning to face to face teaching in Week 3. The other Year levels will transition over time, initially to one day per week on site and then to face to face teaching. It is intended that by the start of Week 7 all students will be engaging in face to face learning. I have included a summary of the key messages below.
Summary of the Key Messages
- The College’s intention is to return all students to face-to-face learning from Week 7: Tuesday 9 June 2020 (Monday is the Queen's Birthday public holiday).
- Year 7 & 12 commence face to face classes in Week 3.
- Year 11 commences one day per week in Week 3 & 4.
- Years 8 - 10 continue with blended learning in Weeks 3 & 4.
- Parents/carers who choose to continue self-isolating their child/ren after face to face teaching for their child’s Year level has recommenced are to contact principal@trinitylismore.nsw.edu.au so that appropriate attendance codes can be applied to explain their absence, and teachers can be informed.
THE WELLBEING OF OUR COLLEGE COMMUNITY
It is important that we do all we can to ensure the wellbeing of our community. To this end I repeat my previous message that anyone exhibiting any sign of illness should not be attending school.
If a student falls ill or exhibits symptoms of being unwell while at school, the current procedures apply and a parent or guardian will be contacted to collect the student as quickly as possible. If the parent or guardian is not available to collect the student, contact will be made with the student’s emergency contact who will be asked to collect the child. Your support in this matter is appreciated.
Students should then not return to school until they are well and symptom free.
ENROLMENTS 2021 AND BEYOND
Enrolments for 2021 and beyond are now currently being accepted – application forms can be obtained by ringing 66276647, downloaded from the College Web Site or by emailing enrolments@trinitylismore.nsw.edu.au
HELP AVAILABLE
We are conscious that some of our families are now facing difficult financial circumstances and a number have already been in contact with us. Please be assured that we will do what we can to support all our families at this time. Trinity Catholic College has a long tradition of assisting families in need and I am serious when I say we will do all we can to assist families seeking to enrol their child at the College. Also, please encourage anyone you may know would like to send their child to the College but are now unsure of their ability to continue their child’s education at the College to contact us before they make any decisions. No child should ever miss out on a Catholic Education because of financial stress.

READING CHALLENGE
To encourage students to continue reading during this time of being at home, a Reading Challenge has been created, in which they can participate.
For those students who are interested in joining this Challenge they have been emailed the website for the Premier’s Reading Challenge
https://online.det.nsw.edu.au/prc/home.html
so they can understand the rules and amendments for 2020. This year students can read 10 books of their own choice, that is books that are not on the Reading Lists for the PRC, so up to 10 books from home can be used for their Reading Log. The Reading Log for the Premier’s Reading Challenge for 2020 was included in the email as well for students to fill out for the books they have read.
This Reading Challenge will operate within the school only, not through the PRC website. I ask that the students forward their completed Reading Logs to me by 28th August.
