We pray to you Creator God, Source of all being,
through Christ, the Light of the World,
in the Spirit of Love,
with Nano, Lady of the Lantern,
to light the way for all people at this time;
to guide those in positions of authority as
they make important decisions;
to be light to the sick and the vulnerable;
to enlighten healthcare workers and
all those in front-line services;
and, in your mercy,
to welcome those who have died.
Amen, Amen.
A prayer from the International Presentation Association
Dear Parents/ Carers,
STAFF DEVELOPMENT DAYS
Yesterday all 11 NSW-ACT Dioceses, in consultation with the NSW Government and Catholic Schools NSW (CSNSW) announced next week (Week 11) will be Staff Development days.
Therefore, from Monday 6 April until Thursday 9 April:
- No new lessons or work will be posted online during this week for all students (Week 11). Students will be free to complete work already posted;
- The College will continue to be open for those families requiring supervision for children to enable parent / carers to attend their places of work; and
- Our teachers will plan and prepare for education in the blended learning environment for next term.
With the commitment and professionalism of the College staff, the support and goodwill of our parents / carers, and the adaptability of our students, we will ensure that the learning environment will operate effectively. One aspect ensuring that the learning environment will operate effectively is to have an avenue if there is a need for ICT assistance. Simply email ictsupport@trinitylismore.nsw.edu.au. This address is monitored and help will be provided where it can. It may not be possible for the ICT Department to ‘fix’ every problem as they are not physically present to diagnose the specific problem. They will do the best that they can, under the circumstances. If the issue is a hardware issue, I would encourage you to contact your place of purchase for assistance.
COUNSELLING SUPPORT AVAILABLE

ENROLMENTS / FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE
I am conscious of the difficult circumstances many of you may now be facing as a result of the growing list of COVID-19 restrictions. Some of your employers may have had to shut or you are in small businesses. I have heard first hand from a number of our current parents of the difficulties they are facing.
If your intention has always been for your child to continue their education at a Catholic School in their secondary years, do not let the current circumstances stop you. Please be assured that Trinity Catholic College will do what we can to support all our local families at this time. No child should ever miss out on a Catholic Education because of financial stress. Trinity Catholic College has a long tradition of assisting families in need and I am serious when I say we will do all we can to assist families seeking to enrol their child at the College.
Enrolments for 2021 are currently being accepted – application forms can be obtained by ringing 66276647, downloaded from the College Web Site or by emailing enrolments@trinitylismore.edu.nsw.au
I would ask that you encourage anyone you are aware of who is looking to apply to enrol their child in 2021 to do so. I ask that you tell anyone you know is thinking of sending their child to the College that we are always open to discussing financial circumstances and don’t let these prevent them applying.
Take care and may God bless us all in this very difficult time for our country and the world.
Brother John Hilet, fms
Dear Members of the Trinity Community,
The sun has set on another week. Three weeks ago I captured the photograph to the right in Ballina. At the time, I never would have thought we would be in the situation we are now.
Today Brother John communicated details regarding Week 11 for Trinity students and staff. This will be an important time for staff to prepare for Term 2 so that learning is accessible, well-paced and delivered in a flexible way.
To our students: I encourage you to use the Easter holiday break to rejuvenate. Term 2 is set to bring further uncertainty so it is important everyone returns to the world of blended learning refreshed and ready to take on the challenges that await. And, above all, enjoy the autumn sunsets.
Year 7-12 Interim Reports
Interim Reports will be issued to parents/carers late next week via the online parent portal. Please ensure you have your login details. If you have issues logging in to Lighthouse that persist after resetting your password, please email parentportal@trinitylismore.nsw.edu.au so we can arrange access for you.
Important HSC Advice from NESA
The latest NESA advice - released 2 April 2020. The COVID19 Response Committee will meet again on Monday. They will focus on major projects for Visual Arts, Design and Technology, Industrial Technology, Textiles and Design, English Ext 2 and Society and Culture. Further updates will be provided.
Student Presence on Lighthouse
Yesterday a considerable amount of time was invested in tracking the presence of students on Lighthouse - and their individual patterns of accessing class pages. The vast majority of our students have accessed and are engaging, which is commendable. Some students have not visited any of their class pages and the College will contact the student to find out why and put in place appropriate supports, as necessary.
Questions & Answers for Students
Q: What do I do if I cannot access Lighthouse?
A: Be patient. Our ICT Team is working around the clock to ensure our systems and services are functioning at optimal capacity. Disruptions may occur due to high demands.
Q: If I am in Year 11 or Year 12 and have a task to submit online but it will not work, what do I do?
A: Remain calm. Call the Office of Student Learning on 66276603. Try emailing the task to oosl@trinitylismore.nsw.edu.au. We will support you.
Q: Is my work being set for the lesson or the week?
A: Teachers are striving to set work for the week. This will allow you to work at your own pace and not feel like you need to do everything in one day. We, teachers, need some more time to work this through so it is consistent across subjects and year levels.
Q: Where do I find the work I need to complete and where do I submit it?
A: Teachers have been asked to place the work at the very top of your class page on Lighthouse, preferably in Due Work so that it appears on your calendar. Teachers have also been asked to provide clear instructions to you regarding how the work is to be submitted. We, teachers, need some more time to work this through so it is consistent across subjects and year levels.
Q: I feel like I am getting more work than I usually would at school. Will this change?
A: Yes, this feeling is clear across all of the student survey results. We, your teachers, will do our best to modify the volume of learning material whilst maintaining high expectations about the quality of your work.
Take Home Packs
From Monday 30 March 2020, English and Mathematics take home packs for Year 7-10 students, without internet and/or device access, can be collected from SJS Office (Leycester Street). These have been prepared and printed for collection. I thank those staff who prepared these packages.
I wish you and yours peace and good health this weekend.
Mr Jesse Smith - Assistant Principal - Learning & Teaching
Dear members of the Trinity Community,
As we reach the end of Week 10, I pray that this communique reaches you well.
- Week 11 - The College is open in a supervisory capacity only. Consistent with all Catholic schools in the state, the week will be a professional learning week for Staff. Students who need to attend school will be supervised in a safe and supportive environment, but no new learning will be posted during this time. This week will provide much-needed breathing space and I encourage students to look after their wellbeing - take the opportunity to read a book, do some exercise and get back in touch with nature.
- The College’s Staff received a lovely heartfelt video message from the College Captains during the week. On behalf of all the Staff I would like to applaud, commend and thank these wonderful young people for reaching out and showing their appreciation on behalf of the students. This truly is a wonderful community and I know this gesture meant a great deal to the Staff.
- Updating details - Now, more than ever, we are needing to contact home from time-to-time. A message went out to all parents / carers who have a Lighthouse account this morning. Included in this message were directions to access Lighthouse if you were having trouble. Within Lighthouse you are able to update your own details using ‘My Details’ and I would encourage people to check that the details we have are still accurate.
- Blog Post: 5 Conversations We Need To Have With Our Kids
- Parenting Ideas and Resources for Schools - features an app and articles that may be of some interest at times.
As we move into next week, please keep lines of communication open. The typical channels still remain in place and we are doing everything we can to continually support all community members in the best way possible. I hope and pray that you and your family are well and I wish you every blessing.
Mr Travis Lyon - Acting Assistant Principal - Students & Staff
