Dear Parents / Carers,
I am conscious of the difficult circumstances many of you are now facing as a result of the growing list of COVID-19 restrictions. Many of our families' employers have had to shut or they are in small businesses. I have heard first hand from them of the difficulties they now face.
Please be assured we will do what we can to support our families at this time. Catholic Schools NSW has produced the attached information sheet. It contains links to the various agencies that can provide assistance to families and small businesses at this time.
Please contact the Finance Department of the College as your first step before you make any decisions for financial reasons relating to your child's ongoing enrolment.
I am serious when I say we will do what we can to assist our families on a case by case basis at this time.
Blended Learning
We are now in a new era of delivering learning experiences to our students. Some students will adapt quickly, others will take more time. For many they have to learn how to learn this way. Please keep in mind that for staff it is also new and they too will take time to adapt and despite our best intentions, we may not always get it right. Patience will be required by all as we come to terms with our changed reality.
Take care and may God bless us all in this very difficult time for our country and the world.
Br John Hilet, fms
Dear Members of the Trinity Community,
I appreciate the support and understanding of families at this time. Your patience is requested as teachers transition to this new blended learning model. We are doing our absolute best in the circumstances.
The key learning and teaching advice is below:
- The health and wellbeing of all community members is the most important priority.
- Year 7-10 formal (summative) assessment tasks were suspended as at 9.00am Monday 23 March 2020.
- All Year 11-12 formal (summative) assessment tasks that can be submitted online are to continue. In class tasks, practical tasks and other tasks that students must complete at the College are suspended effective 3.30pm Tuesday 24 March 2020 (these tasks will be rescheduled in Term 2, in the same way task catch up will be rescheduled for those who have missed tasks).
- NOTE: If students are unable to submit their tasks online, they must contact the Office of Student Learning - 66276603 - the morning the task is due. Illness Misadventure Applications can be lodged.
- NOTE: The NSW Education Standards Authority is to release further details regarding Year 11 and 12 courses and assessments imminently. The College will communicate the details when they are at hand.
- Year 7-11 Interim Reports will be issued to parents/carers later this Term.
- Year 12 Semester 1 Reports will not be issued. In lieu, a Term 1 Interim Report will be issued to parents/carers at the end of Term 1.
NESA released this media statement yesterday afternoon, declaring the 2020 HSC will proceed. NESA has established a new COVID19 Committee to provide rapid responses to the evolving situation. Further updates are expected.
To help families prepare for this new approach to learning, the College has published the following:
I stress, above all, the importance of holistic balance at this challenging time.
Take good care and be assured of my thoughts and prayers.
Mr Jesse Smith - Assistant Principal Learning & Teaching
Dear members of the Trinity Community,
I hope and pray that this communique is reaching you in good health at this time of uncertainty and ambiguity. Please be assured of our prayers and wishes, and that we are feeling for you and with you. Please also be assured that the pastoral care of all of our community members remains at the heart of our ‘how’. In the same way as we always do, caring for the whole person remains our approach.
The College remains open. Today some students continued to attend and they were supervised on St Joseph’s Site whilst they undertook the same learning experiences provided to those not in attendance. At lunch time, most students played games in the TSC or playground and enjoyed some physical activity. I thank our wonderful teachers who continue to do all that they possibly can to ensure the continued education of our young people; however that looks. As you can imagine, it is an incredibly steep learning curve, but the way in which all Trinity staff have rallied during this time is nothing short of heroic.
A lot of information has been forthcoming, so not to repeat too much here, but some brief points:
- Wellbeing - The House system structure remains in place. Heads of House and Tutors have an extensive knowledge of their families and situations. If you have any pastoral concerns, please be in touch with them. Online - Lighthouse is not just a learning tool but a community hub. There are plenty of wellbeing resources available through the student wellbeing hub.
- Attendance - The College is asking that a decision to keep a student home to work during this time
- Remains final and
- Goes through the Principal’s Office - principal@trinitylismore.nsw.edu.au
- Uniform - The College remains open and uniform is still required as usual.
- Learning - Much has been shared outlining guidelines for the continuation of learning. Students who continue to learn are much more likely to feel a sense of accomplishment, achievement, agency and worth - all key to a balanced sense of self. Any concerns regarding learning should first of all be directed to the class teacher, then Leader of Learning for that KLA and so on.
- Financial - As per Brother John’s communication earlier today: please be in touch with our Finance Department immediately if you have concerns at this time regarding ongoing financial situations.
- Physical Health - With an increase in device-based work it is important to structure breaks and continue to move. The PDHPE Team has published helpful guidelines on each class Lighthouse page and I encourage all of our students to try to do some activity every day.
- Canteen - There will be no canteen available as of tomorrow, Thursday 26 March 2020 - students will need to bring their own lunch.
Thank you for your ongoing support at this time. Please rest assured that the College is doing everything we can do to ensure the continuation of learning and wellbeing of our valued community.
Take care and God bless,
Mr Travis Lyon - Acting Assistant Principal - Students & Staff
